The 56th winner of the 2000 Guineas, held on Tuesday 26th April 1864 over the Rowley Mile, was General Peel (7/2), a chestnut colt by Young Melbourne out of Daughter of Orlando, owned by the 5th Earl of Glasgow. The winner won by a length in 1 minute 48.50 secs, with a length back to the third. A field of 13 runners contested the race which was worth 4500 sovereigns (Equivalent to £522,000 in 2017)
