Originally Western Canada had a racecourse at Polo Park but this was developed for housing and replaced by the newly built Assiniboia Downs racecourse at Winnipeg in the state of Manitoba in 1958.
Remarkably the course was built in just 9 months and opened in June 1958.

The course took over the running of the Manitoba Derby which was first held in the late 1920's.
If you have badges, racecards, pictures of the racecourse or further details about the course, including your memories, then email
