The racecourse Hipodromo de Asuncion, a left handed oval dirt track of 9 furlongs with a 450 metre straight, can be found to the south of the city of Asuncion, the capital city of Paraguay, with races being staged every Sunday between February and December. The course, with the capacity to entertain 80,000 people, first opened its gates on 18th September 1954, with racing administered by the Paraguay Jockey Club. The principal race is the Premio Especial Presidente De La Republica.
