The Ohio State racecourse of Bainbridge, later known as the Grandview Race Track, was located at Bainbridge Park, north of Geauga Lake Park, on Bainbridge Island in the state of Washington. It was certainly a thriving, popular 4 furlong oval course which was built in 1927 by John King and Homer Kline. For a time the Ohio Derby was held at the now defunct track, with Sunfire winning in a record time in 1928. As well as a 4 furlong harness racing track the venue branched out into car racing between 1946 and 1951 on an 8 furlong course outside the horse racing track, and greyhound racing until the grandstand was gutted by a fire in 1956. Today there is little evidence of the former racecourse now covered by the Marketplace Shopping Centre. |
