The racecourse of Brockton Fair was located in Raynham in the state of Massachusetts. It held its inaugural meeting on 8th September 1941 and closed its gates for the final time in 2001. However, in that period there were many ups and downs. The 4 furlong oval dirt track, with 5 furlong chute and 185 metre home straight was a thoroughbred track throughout. Its initial spell of racing lasted from 1941 until a final meet on 9th July 1972, after which racing lapsed for some considerable time. In early 2001 a greyhound track owner, George Carney, purchased the Brockton Fair track with a view to improving its facilities and providing an extended period of thoroughbred racing. The track reopened on 30th June 2001, but after just 30 days of racing it closed for the final time on 18th August 2001. |
