Date 1930 Credits 170
FIRST MEETING
30th May 1855
SITUATED
Close by the A48 at Ely on the outskirts of Cardiff.
DISTANCES
2 miles to 3 ½ miles.
PRINCIPAL RACE
Welsh Grand National and Welsh Champion Hurdle (now both at Chepstow)
WORLD WAR I
Closed for racing.
WORLD WAR II
Already had closed by 1939.
FACT
Cardiff did have a paddock and weighing room, as one would expect at any racecourse.
QUESTION
Why was the situation of the paddock and weighing room significantly different at Cardiff than other courses?
CURRENT SITUATION
With the old grandstand now gone, there is little evidence of the previous existence of a racecourse, with housing estates and a Sports Centre now covering the ground.
LAST MEETING
27th April 1939
