CUMBERLAND RACECOURSE
The racecourse of Cumberland was based at Allegany County Fairground in the state of Maryland and first opened its gates to thoroughbred racing in 1924. It was known in its early days as Fairgo Racetrack before becoming Cumberland. The track was very popular with Maryland punters who also went to Malboro and Timonium.
The course closed in 1961, although racing of a different kind in the form of motor racing then took place at the circuit.
