This was run on Thursday 9th May 1782 and 13 ran, although there were 35 subscribers initially. The winner was a bay horse by Sweetbriar out of Angelica.

THE DERBY 1782

The Derby Stakes of 50 Guineas each entry, colts to carry 8 st and fillies 7 st 11 lb. The race was over the last mile and the winner received £1,155 (The equivalent of £185,300 in today's terms based on Bank of England inflation calculator), whilst the second horse received 100 Guineas out of the stakes. The winner was trained by Frank Neale.
