This was run on Wednesday 24th May 1848 and the winner was bred by Lord George Bentinck and trained by John Kent at Goodwood. There were 17 runners from an initial entry of 215. The winner won by a neck in 2 mins 48 secs, with a length between second and third. The first prize was £5,800, (The equivalent of £656,300 in today's terms based on Bank of England inflation calculator). The race took place on the New Derby Course for the first time, although the distance remained a mile and a half. |
