Epsom Derby 1858

This was run on Wednesday 19th May 1858 and the winner was bred by Sir Joseph Hawley and trained by George Manning at Cannons Heath. There were 23 runners from an initial entry of 200. The winner won by a length in 2 mins 54 secs, with 2 lengths between second and third. The winner won a first prize of £5,575, (The equivalent of £658,600 in today's terms based on Bank of England inflation calculator).
