This, so called New Derby Stakes, was run on Saturday 13th June 1942 at Newmarket because of World War II, and the winner was bred by the 17th Earl of Derby and trained by Walter Earl at Newmarket. There were 13 runners from an initial entry of 56. The winner won by a neck with 2 lengths between second and third. The winners time was 2 mins 29.6 secs. The winner won a first prize of £3,844, (The equivalent of £172,200 in today's terms based on Bank of England inflation calculator).
