This, so called New Derby Stakes, was run on Saturday 19th June 1943 at Newmarket because of World War II, and the winner was bred by Miss Dorothy Paget and trained by Walter Nightingall at Epsom. There were 23 runners from an initial entry of 72. The winner won by a head with 1/2 a length between second and third. The winners time was 2 mins 30.4 secs. The winner won a first prize of £4,388, (The equivalent of £190,200 in today's terms based on Bank of England inflation calculator).
