This was run on Wednesday 7th June 1972 and the winner was bred by Mr John Galbreath and trained by M.Vincent O'Brien. There were 22 runners and the winning time was 2 mins 36.09 secs. The winner won by a short head with 3 lengths back to the third. The winner won a first prize of £63,735.75, the equivalent of £1,110,000 today.
