There were 13 runners and the winner won by 5 lengths in a time of 2 mins 35.69 secs, with 3 lengths between second and third. The winner was owned by The Royal Ascot Racing Club and claimed a first prize of £725,000, (The equivalent of £1,029,200 in today's terms based on Bank of England inflation calculator). The second was owned by Michael Tabor and the third by Godolphin.
