ELWICK RACECOURSE | |||
Elwick Racecourse is in Tattersall's Park, Hobart on Tasmania. It opened for racing in 1874 and each year hosts the Hobart Cup and the Tasmanian Derby.
In 1875 the first running of the Hobart Cup was
over 2 miles and was won by Ella.
|
|||
It was won in 1927 by Roonsleigh who gained back to back wins the following year. Seiki in 1955 and 56, and Brallos in 1976 and 77 repeated the feat. The 2008 winner of the Cup was Offenbach.
The Tasmanian Derby is run over 2200 metres and was first contested in 1915 when won by Tasman's Isle. The latest renewal saw Betwixt successful to become the first filly for over 30 years to win the Derby.
Grateful to Tony Nash for the scans of the racecards shown above.
