The New Jersey State town of Far Hills is the venue for the Far Hills Steeplechase racecourse which is known as 'The Hunt' by locals, and first hosted racing as early as 1875 when racing was organised by the Essex Hunt. In the early days of the 1870s local hunt enthusiasts formed the Essex Hunt and laid out a course over local farmers land. By 1916 the venue changed to Moorland Farms, where it still resides today. Its principal race is the Breeders Cup Grand National Steeplechase, a race launched in 1899 at Morris Park Racecourse. In more recent times it is known as the Grand National Hurdle Stakes, and has been contested at Far Hills since 2000. That first race of the new millennium was won by All Gong over a distance of 2 miles and 5 furlongs complete with 14 fences to contest.
