A racecourse has existed at Durban, KwaZulu-Natal since 1844 when it was run by the Natal Turf Club. In 1884 it became Greyville Racecourse and currently holds both day and floodlit night meetings on a right handed 14 furlong turf track, with a flexible polytrack on its inside. Its principal races are the Group One Greyville Gold Cup over 3200 metres, which is run in August and was first staged in 1922, and the Durban July Handicap (Vodacom July) which has been run at the track in July since 1897. It was won in its inaugural running by Campanajo who recorded back to back wins the next year. Milesia Pride repeated the feat in 1949 and 1950, as did El Picha for trainer Geoff Woodruff in 1999 and 2000. In the 2008 renewal there was a dead-heat between Pocket Power and Dancers Daughter, although complete results since the start of this millennium are shown below.
