HASTINGS PARK RACECOURSE

This must be the setting for the loveliest racecourse in the world. When a visit was made to the course in May 2012 the sun was shining, the temperature was 28C and there was snow on the Rockies in the background.

The Hastings Park racecourse can be found in Vancouver in British Columbia. It opened in 1889 when known as East Park racecourse. Its principal races are the Group 3 British Columbia Derby and Oaks, as well as the Ballerina Breeder's Cup Stakes. It also hosts the Futurity Stakes.

The British Columbia Derby is run over 9 furlongs for 3 year olds and was first introduced in 1948 when Ohsodry was successful. In 2008 the David Wilson ridden Krazy Koffee prevailed. The 2008 Oaks was won by Blue Sky Holiday prevailing by 1 3/4 lengths. In 2011 Crew Leader won the S W Randall Plate, Class Included triumphed in The Oaks, Almost Time won the British Columbia Cup, and Jebrica won The Premiers.
