IRISH 2000 GUINEAS The Irish 2000 Guineas is a Group 1 race for 3 year old colts and fillies, contested each May, over 1 mile at The Curragh. It was first run on Wednesday 25th May 1921 over a mile when won by Soldennis (SR 1860). Since its inception there have been 11 winners, up to 2018, who have gone on to win the Irish Derby. They are in 1922 Spike Island (SR 2002), 1926 Embargo (SR 1953), 1928 Baytown (SR 1980), 1935 Museum (SR 1991), 1937 Phideas (SR 1928), 1942 Windsor Slipper (SR 2035), 1943 The Phoenix (SR 2019), 1944 Slide On (SR 1928), 1964 Santa Claus (SR 2073), 1975 Grundy (SR 2123) and in 1997 Desert King (SR 1944).
