Speedway first took place at the Norfolk Arena, on Saddlebow Road in 1965. That initial meeting was held on a shale track on 23rd May 1965. The venue quickly became very popular and the team went from strength to strength. At the outset it had a team in the British League in 1966 and 67 but rose through the ranks and by 1991 had joined British League Division one. It was in the Premier League in 1995 and the Elite League in 2000-02. Since 2002 it has been a member of the Premier League.

The first greyhound meeting took place on the Saddlebrow Greyhound Racetrack on 27th August 1951 and early speedway meetings did take place at the track, including one on the 7th September 1952.
