The racecourse at Phu Tho first opened its gates to thoroughbred racing in 1932 on a 48 hectare site. Racing at the track is administered by the Saigon Racing Club and normally takes place between 12 noon and 5 pm on Saturdays and Sundays.
Although there was a period of 14 years, starting in 1975, when racing ceased at the track, it reopened due to public demand in 1989 and is now a successful venture.
