Plainridge racetrack is situated in Plainville in the state of Massachusetts and caters entirely for harness racing enthusiasts. It is a relatively young, modern track which did not open until 17th March 1999. It has a track circumference of 5 furlongs, with a 160 metre home straight, and the season normally begins in April and extends through to December. Its principal races are the New England Classic, the Stan Bergstein Pace, the Bert Beckwith Memorial and the Guy Smith Memorial. The Bert Beckwith Memorial was named after the talented driver who committed suicide at the age of 42 in August 1987.
