Pocono Downs racetrack is based at the town of Wilkes-Barre in the state of Pennsylvania. It is famous for harness racing on a tight 5 furlong oval dirt circuit with a 150 metre home straight, its racing season traditionally starting in April and extending through to October. Its inaugural meeting was held on 15th July 1965 and, whilst more famous for harness racing, it did host thoroughbred meetings from 1970 until 1980. The inaugural thoroughbred meeting was staged on 22nd August 1969, while the last was held on 28th October 1980. Its principal races are the Reynold Stakes, the Pennsylvania Sires Stakes, the Max Hempt Memorial and the James Lynch Memorial Stakes.
