The Pennsylvania State racetrack of Presque Isle Downs is located in Erie and is owned by the same group, Churchill Downs Inc, which administers racing at its more famous cousin Churchill Downs. Thoroughbred racing was first staged on the 8 furlong synthetic oval track which has separate 6 furlong and 10 furlong chutes sharing a 324 metre home straight, on 1st September 2007. Its principal races are the Presque Isle Mile, the Tom Ridge Stakes formally known as the Tom Ridge Labor Day Stakes, the Fitx Dixon Memorial Juvenile Stakes and the Karl Boyes Memorial Stakes.
