Randwick racecourse is situated about 5 kilometres from Sydney City Centre in New South Wales and is operated by the Australian Jockey Club. It was the venue for one of the first recorded races in Australia when a Private Match took place in June 1833. By the 1840's it was firmly established as one of Australia's premier courses.

Randwick pass.JPG (20381 bytes) It hosts no less that 16 Group One races which include the Australian Jockey Club Derby and Oaks, both run in April for 3 year olds over 2400 metres. The Derby was first run in 1861 when won by Kyogle. The latest winner in 2008 was Nom Du Jeu. The Oaks was first run in 1912 when won by Uralla, with the latest victor being Heavenly Glow.

It also hosts the Sydney Cup in April over 3200 metres. This has been run at Randwick since 1862 when Talleyrand was successful and in 2008 No Wine No Song was triumphant.

Australian JC 1990.JPG (13297 bytes) A further Group race is the Champagne Stakes for 2 year olds over 1600 metres. This was won in 2008 by Samantha Miss.
