The 96th winner of the St Leger, held on Wednesday 13th September 1871 over 1 mile 6 furlongs and 132 yards of Town Moor, was Hannah, a bay filly by King Tom out of Mentmore Lass, owned by Baron Rothschild. A field of 10 runners contested the race, although there were 205 subscriptions of 25 sovereigns each, which was worth 5125 sovereigns. The value to the winner was £4,810. (Equivalent to £529,100 in 2017)
