The New South Wales town of Garah is located in the Moree Plains Shire of the state some 415 miles north west of the state capital Sydney. It enjoys good transport links with the rest of the state, being close to the Carnarvon Highway and on the Mungindi railway route. Despite having a population of barely 300 it has its own racecourse run by the Talmoi Picnic Race Club which lays claim to being one of the oldest Picnic Race Clubs in the state, having first staged racing in November 1911. That inaugural meeting on Clifford racecourse took place on Wednesday 9th November 1911 in front of 200 people, including guests from Moree. |

In 1913 the Patron of the Club was Mr J T Crane, the President Mr F C Morse, while the 3 Vice-Presidents were Mr H T Siddins, Mr A W Bucknell and Mr W Strong. The meeting was held on 1st November 1913 and after the first race the President unfurled the new flag, presented by Fred Thompson, bearing the Club’s colours and the lettering TAPRC. The Breeder’s Plate was won in a questionable manner by Harry Gall who led into the straight but was strongly challenged by 2 horses. He baulked one and brought the second one to its knees to claim the race. |
