The small New South Wales town of Tottenham lies in the Lachlan Shire of the state and, despite its small population, is on a rail link from Bogan Gate. The town also benefits from its own racecourse where racing is administered by the Tottenham Picnic Race Club, holding its annual meeting on a Saturday in early March when the principal race is the Tottenham Picnic Up over 1400 metres. The earliest record of racing in Tottenham was on Monday 19th April 1909 when the meeting was overseen by the Peep o’ Day Racing Club. The feature races that day were the Buddahabah Stakes which saw Mr Logan’s Misare beat Little Good, while in the Merlba Stakes Mr Berryman’s Willis beat Partridge. The day was brought to an end when the Peep o’ Day Handicap saw a good tussle between Little Good and Misare, with the former prevailing. The next year in May 1910 the Tottenham Handicap was won by Staple at the expense of Little Good and Young Athol.
