TURFWAY PARK RACECOURSE
Turfway Park racecourse is to be located at the town of Florence in the state of Kentucky. It first opened its gates in 1959 when known as Latonia Race Course, but switched to Turfway Park in 1986.
Its principal race is the Lane's End Stakes, a Group 2 event over 9 furlongs which was first contested in 1972 when won by the Jimmy Murchison ridden Big Dot. More recently in 2009 the winner was Hold Me Back, and the latest 2012 winner was the John Velazquez ridden Went The Day Well.
Other feature races at the track are the Group 3 Bourbonette Oaks for fillies and the Group 3 Kentucky Cup Classic Handicap. The former, contested over a mile,was first run in 1983 when won by Push On ridden by James McKnight. its most recent running in 2012 was won by In Lingerie when ridden by John Velazquez. The latter Cup Classic was first run in 1994 and was won by Tabasco Cat ridden by Pay Day. More recently in 2011 the 9 furlong Handicap was won by the Edgar Prado ridden Future Prospect.
