WASHINGTON PARK RACECOURSE

The Washington Park racecourse was located in Chicago in the state of Illinois. It began racing in 1884 when the track was at Woodlawn, but it then transferred to Homewood. Although it was forced to close in 1905 when the state of Illinois banned gambling (well before states like New York),but it did reopen in 1926 at Homewood. The photo below shows yet another victory for No Reward trained by Ben Stutts whose son Corky is holding the winner.

Its principal race was the American Derby. Unfortunately in 1977 the grandstand suffered extensive fire damage and the track never reopened.
