FIRST MEETING
Tuesday 29th May 1849
SITUATED
In East Kent, between Ashford and Canterbury, near the town of Wye at Wye Station.
DISTANCES
2 miles to 3 miles 1 furlong ( Flat racing until 1878)
PRINCIPAL RACE
The Wye Centenary Chase.
WORLD WAR I
Closed
WORLD WAR II
Closed
FACT
Less than one mile round, and more suited to a greyhound track than a racecourse, Wye could not be entirely classed as the ideal preparation for a tilt at the Champion Hurdle.
QUESTION
Which one of the Queen Mothers horses won at Wye prior to running third to Persian War in a Champion Hurdle?
CURRENT SITUATION
Still evidence of the existence of a racecourse, although the land is now farmed.
LAST MEETING
2nd May 1974
