The racecourse of Yakima Meadows was situated in the city of Yakima, with a population of about 91,000, in the state of Washington. Its inaugural thoroughbred race meeting was held during on 29th April 1961 on an 8 furlong oval dirt track with separate 6 furlong and 10 furlong chutes, each sharing a 302 metre home straight, supported by a 3,500 seater grandstand. During its 37 year history it provided thoroughbred and quarter horse programmes, the season culminating in the running of the Yakima Mile. The track finally drew up the drawbridge and closed its gates on 8th November 1998.
