Situated on the Hume Highway in Benalla in Victoria State is the Benalla Racecourse.
The Club can trace its history back to 1868 and a grandstand was built early on in its history, although it was pulled down in 1969.

Its principal race is the Benalla Cup. In 1984 the winner was Black Knight who went on to win the Melbourne Cup just a month later to show the strength of field the Benalla Cup demands. The 2008 winner, held in October, was Rhumb Line trained in Tasmania and ridden by Gary White.
A remarkable feat was achieved at the racecourse when apprentice Roy Higgins rode 5 winners in one day. He later went on to become champion jockey.
