The Bendigo Racecourse is in White Hills, Victoria. Records show that the Bendigo Jockey Club was formed in April 1854 and by 1858 the first Sandhurst Cup was held at the track and won by Old England. | ||
In 1873 a remarkable decision was made to change the
direction in which the horses ran so that they now run in an anticlockwise direction.

In 1902 a new grandstand was built and 64 years later a further £1.5 million was spent on improving grandstand facilities once more. The Elmore Racing Club also hold fixtures at the Bendigo circuit., and a scan of the Racing Club badge is shown below. | ||
An amazing feat happened on 12th November 2008 when Banana Man was ridden to victory by Michelle Payne. Her sister had won the same race in 1987 on Flying Eskimo when trained by her father Paddy, while brother Patrick got in on the act in 1994 by winning the same race aboard Ice Doctor. | ||
