LUDLOW

  Badges through the decades

Brief History

1643

The match racing of horses ridden by soldiers stationed at Ludlow Castle is reported to have taken place at Bromfield, near Ludlow.

1729

First evidence of a meeting taking place at Ludlow.

1796

Further evidence that regular meetings were taking place, although they were not the main entertainment. Indeed, racing started late into the afternoon this year becuase of the length of time taken by cock fights.

1850

Races up to this date had been on the flat, but records show that the first hurdle races took place in this year.
