| 1621 Prior to racing taking place in Newcastle, it is know that racing took place at Killingworth Moor, with a meeting being recorded on 17th March. 1695Earliest recorded races in the books of the Newcastle Corporation. 1721 Races are run at Town Moor for the first time. 1753 The King's Plate is run for the first time on 5th June and is won by Cato. 1789 William Loftus is appointed Clerk of the Course and begins the process of making Newcastle races more respectable. 1800 Silver subscribers tickets were sold at 15 guineas each to pay for a grandstand which was duly opened this year. 1833 The 2 mile Northumberland Plate was first run on the Town Moor course as a £15 handicap sweepstake, and was won by Tomboy carrying 8st 2lbs. 1844 The famous, and highly successful, race mare Alice Hawthorn won the Newcastle Gold Cup over a 2 mile course. 1881 The Gosforth Park Company is formed under the direction of Fife Scott and Charles Perkins. In March the first enclosed coursing meeting takes place at High Gosforth Park. 1882 The races move from Town Moor to the 800 acre Gosforth Park estate. The Northumberland Plate was won by Victor Emmanuel, who also won 2 Goodwood Cups and the Ebor.
