1714 Earliest record of racing taking place at Warwick. 1754A two day meeting takes place on the 13th and 14th August. On each day £50 purses were given to the winners; a hunters race on the 13th and a conditions race on the 14th. 1783 A handbill of the time shows that two races took place on 22nd August, with entries being recorded at the Cross-Keys Inn in Castle Street. 1793 The first running of the King's Plate at Warwick 1815 A grandstand was erected, mainly financed by private subscription. 1845 Warwick gets its first steeplechase course. 1847 Chandler gains a jumping success on his way to Grand National success in 1848. He is said to have jumped a world record 39 feet to clear a brook and 4 fallen horses. 1886 The Warwick Races Club Syndicate is formed. 1

Racing ceases for the duration of the War. 1946 The Corporation purchase the racecourse from the Warwick Races Club Syndicate. 1967 Racecourse Holdings Trust take charge of the running of the course. |
