The provincial racecourse at Cairns can be found at Cannon Park in the state of Queensland off the Great Barrier Reef and some 1220 miles North of Brisbane.
The Cairns Jockey Club was formed in the Mining Exchange Hotel in July 1884 and the 50 founder members organised their first meeting later that year.

The racecourse was developed on land donated by the Cannon family and the first meeting on the new track took place in 1911.
Currently the track hosts 12 meetings annually and its principal race is the Cairns Cup held each August since 1900. The latest running in 2008 was witnessed by over 10000 people and won by Pure Silence ridden by Graham Kliese.
