CRANBOURNE RACECOURSE
Located on the South Gippsland Highway in Victoria, Cranbourne Racecourse is about 30 miles South East of Melbourne.
The town can chart the history of racing in the area back
to 1860 when the Cranbourne Turf Club was formed.
|
||
Racing ceased during the Second World War but returned to the racecourse soon after in 1946. The course needed a boost as it was only allowed to race on Saturdays, but then a change of law allowed for mid-week racing and the racecourse went from strength to strength.
The principal race is the Listed Cranbourne Cup run over
2025 metres each October and won in 2008 by Majestical.
