ECHUCA RACECOURSE
The Racecourse at Echuca can be located on the Northern Highway some 130 miles North of Melbourne, over the Murray River in Victoria.
Racing in the farming rich area of Echuca dates back to 1864 when the Echuca Racing Club was formed. Once the railway syatem gained strength the Racecourse benefitted from an influx of racecgoers by train and started diversifying the types of racing offered to include harness racing and trotting races.
During and between the World Wars racing in the area suffered and it was thought, at one stage, that racing would cease entirely. However, the town once again holds regular, popular meetings.
