KERANG RACECOURSE
Approached via the Calder Highway, Kerang Racecourse is about 50 miles North West of Melbourne in Victoria.
It is known that racing took place in Kerang in 1879, although not on the present racecourse, but one about 10 miles from Kerang at Wandella Lake. It was on St Patrick's Day, and the course was aptly named because the weather was so bad that the course became waterlogged.

Such was the farce of that early meeting that the second race had only 2 runners, with each falling a number of times before the eventual winner was declared as Godfrey.
By 1904 racing moved to its present site on Alexandra Park in Kerang.
