FIRST MEETING
New course in 1909
SITUATED
About a mile and a half from Lanark, with Edinburgh to the North and Ayr to the South.
DISTANCES
An oval course of some 1 mile 140 yards with a gradual rise to the finish. It was possible to start the 5 furlong races on the straight course, while 6 furlong races had to be started on the round course.

WORLD WAR I
Out of action until racing began again in 1920
WORLD WAR II
Out of action again until 24th September 1945
FACT
Replicas of the Lanark Silver Bell were presented to winning owners, except for 3 particular winners.
QUESTION
Which 3 owners of Lanark Bell winners were allowed to hold the actual Silver bell?
CURRENT SITUATION
Course still in place, although few negotiations to try to re-introduce racing have taken place for the past 8 years.
