MERTON RACECOURSE
The Merton racecourse can be found on the Eurora Road at Merton in the State of Victoria. It is run by the Merton Picnic Race Club and can trace its history back to 1865. In the early days it hosted 2 meetings annually in January and March.
Typically at such a small track horses enter for more than one race. Indeed, at the 1947 meeting in January some horses were entered for as many as 4 of the 6 races.

In January 1965 the course celebrated its Centenary meeting. The feature race at the early meetings was the Merton Hndicap.
In the Merton Cup of 2009 contested on New Years Day The Lion King overturned the favourite All our Troubles.
