The racecourse at Scarborough Downs can be found in Scarborough, Maine and was designed by Charles Coon in 1949. The 8 furlong oval dirt track with 345 metre home straight was first opened for thoroughbred racing on 1st July 1950, with punters are accommodated in an enclosed grandstand with the capacity to seat 4,000, with a further 1,050 welcomed into the Clubhouse. Later launching harness racing on 12th May 1969. Within 3 years the track switched from dual purpose to harness racing only, the final thoroughbred race was staged on 4th September 1972.  A tragedy occurred on 1st October 1980 when a fire decimated a stable barn, resulting in 11 horses perishing. The track was reorganised into a 4 furlong oval dirt track with 135 metre home straight to stage harness races on 28th May 1973 and today its feature race for harness racers is the Presidents Pace.
